Glutamic acid is highly regulated in man and other organisms, the mechanisms of which are well understood. It is classified as Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) by the Food and Drug administration. Glutamate has been administered to numerous species in long term dietary studies without adverse effects. The end-use product containing glutamic acid, AuxiGro WP, has been valuated for acute toxicity. Acute oral toxicity in rats is greater than 5,050 mg/kg (Toxicity category IV). Acute dermal toxicity in rabbits is greater than 5,050 mg/kg (Toxicity Category IV).
